Rose
Rose is the flower of love. Roses have been used by most civilizations since ancient times. The fragrant rose petals offer a soft, warm, sweet floral scent and are emotionally uplifting. Rose has a natural affinity with the heart. Providing harmony, nurturing, balance, calm, and soothes anxiety.
Rose Essential Oil and Rose Absolute
Rose essential oil or absolute is a nerve tonic, balancing, calms stress, an antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, antidepressant, nervous sedative, anti-inflammatory, and astringent. It’s good for hair growth, softening hair, acne, broken capillaries, inflamed skin, eczema, wrinkles, dry skin, dehydrated skin, sensitive skin, and most skin types. The chemical composition of rose essential oil is different than rose absolute. The extraction process of rose absolute allows larger molecules to also extract. The steam distillation process of rose otto produces only molecules that easily evaporate. To produce 1 gram of rose essential oil, approximately 500 grams of rose petals are distilled. This is why it is so expensive. One drop is very concentrated and healing. The scent of rose essential oil Rosa damascena compared to rose absolute Rosa damascena is different. Both smell divine like roses, sweet, warm, and intoxicating, but they are each unique and smell differently.

Rose otto essential oil is rose flowers from steam distillation.

Coconut oil maintains elasticity of the skin. It is soothing, nourishing, moisturizing, and smooths and softens skin and hair. It’s great for Pitta and Kapha. If you don’t want the coconut scent, used refined coconut oil. It is a light oil and cooling,
Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil is rich in vitamins and minerals. It is deeply nourishing, conditioning, and moisturizing and softens skin and hair. Sunflower oil is tridoshic, generally good for all doshas. It supports a healthy skin barrier and helps to stimulate the lymphatic system when used in massage.
Sesame Oil
Sesame oil is a healing oil and used since ancient times especially in Ayurveda. It is nourishing, moisturizing, and soothing to skin and hair. It draws out impurities and is good for arthritis, skin ailments. It is surprising how easily the skin absorbs this rich oil. It is warming, calming, and grounding. Sesame oil is great for Vata and Kapha for more warmth, for Pitta it can be balanced with other oils. Sesame oil has a nutty-like aroma that comes through in formulations. This aroma dulls the scent of essential oils. If using expensive rose essential oil, omit it or use it at a very low amount.

*Ways to Infuse Rose Petals
There are many ways to infuse rose petals into oil. For this oil, I like to do a gentle warming of the oil with the roses for 3 days. I gently warm the oil and roses to about 77F / 25C for about 30 minutes for 3 days. The 30 minutes includes the time at the start to warm up the oil. After 3 days, I strain it. I was taught this method by a 7th generational Maya Healer, Miss Beatrice, when I stayed at her home in a village in Belize.
