Waterless Whipped Body Butter

If you’re new to making skincare or haircare or prefer a simple, pure product, start with making a waterless whipped body butter. I created this formula over 20 years ago, and it remains one of my all-time favorites. I used to teach about the healing benefits of body butters at colleges. One of the lead instructors took some home and later told me that it had completely healed her husband’s dry, cracked feet.

For skin, opt for a blend of plant butters and oils that provide deep moisture while absorbing quickly. Plants naturally harmonize with our skin, making them the most effective ingredients for both skin and hair. This synergy enhances our natural beauty, leaving hair and skin radiant, soft, and nourished.

For hair, choose lightweight oils and butters that absorb quickly and leave a dry, non-greasy finish.

High Performance Ingredients

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter acts as an excellent emollient, deeply moisturizing and softening the skin while providing nourishment and protection. Cocoa butter helps soothe irritation, hydrates both skin and hair, improves elasticity, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and stretch marks. When applied to the skin, it melts at body temperature (95°F/35°C), creating a smooth, non-heavy feel. It is also a great thickening agent in formulations.

Unrefined cocoa butter has a natural chocolate aroma and a light creamy yellow color, which can dominate a formulation’s scent. I prefer naturally deodorized cocoa butter unless it has a subtle chocolate scent.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is one of the most nourishing butters for skin and hair care and has been used for centuries in Africa to hydrate, soften, and protect the skin and hair. Shea butter forms a water-resistant barrier, offers mild sun protection, and supports regeneration. It melts slower on the skin compared to cocoa butter, making it ideal for long-lasting hydration.

Unrefined shea butter has a strong nutty aroma that remains noticeable even with added essential oils. The color is a natural tan. I primarily use naturally refined shea butter, which allows essential oil scents to shine through and results in a whiter product.

Other Butters

Try other luxurious butters like Cupuacu Butter, Mango Butter, Murumuru Butter, or Sal Butter.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is a lightweight, highly nutritious oil rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E. It absorbs easily into the skin, instantly softening and providing deep nourishment. Almond oil helps the skin retain moisture, making it an excellent emollient for most skin types.

Suitable for most skin and hair types, almond oil is especially beneficial for age-defying skincare.

Lavender

Lavender is renowned for its calming, relaxing, and soothing properties. Known as a skin-reparative herb, it supports fast healing and skin cell regeneration. Naturally cleansing and rejuvenating, lavender is beneficial for most skin and hair types.
