Know Your Skin- Part 3: Easy DIY Skin Care Recipes
Now that we figured our your skin type and learned about some plant oils, essential oils and herbs that are best for your skin type, lets put it all together for some easy DIY skin care recipes.
Natural Cleansers
Cleansing is very important for vibrant skin. A facial cleanser should gently lift dirt and make-up and should never be harsh.
A very simple and pure way to cleanse your face is to use a plant oil as oils absorb dirt and make-up. Some great oils to use for your cleanser are olive oil, sesame oil, and castor oil. These oils are thick and take longer for the skin to absorb. Add in a few drops of lemon essential oil for a refreshing cleanser.
Facial Steam
Facial steams are a great way to open your pores while releasing toxins from your skin. When you add in herbs to your facial steam, the nourishing properties of the herbs will be absorbed by the skin. Facial steams are great for congested, oily and normal skin. Facial steams may aggravate the skin for those with acne or sensitive skin and should only be used with care. You can try reducing the temperature of the water and only steam for a few minutes.
For an herbal facial steam you simply combine hot water with dried or fresh herbs in a large heat-resistant bowl. Use a combination of herbs that are personalized towards your skin type. Allow the herbs to steep in the water for about 5 minutes and then hover your face over the bowl with a towel draped over your head. Make sure to take care not to be too close and burn your skin from the steam! If it gets too hot, simply lift up the towel to allow air in. Steam for 10 minutes.
Moisturizers
Moisturizers are important to nourish and protect the skin. Plant oil serums are some of the best products for your face and some even have a natural sun protection (such as sesame, jojoba, avocado, etc.). You only need a few drops for your face. Even those with oily skin can use plant oil serums, as the oil communicates to the skin to stop producing too much skin.
