Lavender is in full bloom in June and July. This is the time to harvest lavender and to make products with lavender. Lavender calms, soothes, and relaxes. Lavender is anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and antiseptic. Download the FREE Lavender eBook below.
Lavender
Fresh and dried lavender is available at farmers markets, lavender festivals and online. If you purchase the lavender on the stem, hold the flower buds over a bowl and slide them off the stem into the bowl.Â
Check your area for any lavender festivals. They are in June and July and are a lot of fun.

4 Week Infused Lavender Body Oil
How to Make Lavender Body Oil
Lavender body oil can be used all over the body including the face. I like to infuse lavender into almond oil because it is a light oil and immediately softens the skin. This lavender body oil can also be used on the ends of the hair and a few drops massaged into the scalp.
You will need:
~Fresh or Dried Lavender Flowers
~Almond Oil, Sunflower oil, Olive oil, or Jojoba oil
~Glass Jar with lid (clean and sanitized with alcohol or 70% isopropyl alcohol)
~Clean and sanitized scissors
Directions:
- Cut fresh lavender into small pieces into clean and sanitized jar. French lavender has a beautiful scent in oil.
- Fill the jar 3/4 full with cut lavender.
- Pour oil (I like almond or sunflower oil) over the lavender making sure they are completely covered.
- Store in a dry area. Shake oil for the first few days and make sure all lavender is submerged in oil.
- After 2-4 weeks strain the lavender out of the oil. Use cheesecloth, paper oil filter or coffee filter.
- Apply the lavender body oil onto skin for a beautiful scent and immediately softer skin.
Directions to Make Lavender Oil
2. Fill the glass jar with cut lavender to about 3/4 full.
3. Cover the lavender with plant oil and make sure all lavender is covered with oil. Close the lid tightly.
4. Store the jar in a cool and dry place for two-four weeks. The first few days, open the lid and make sure the lavender is completely covered with oil.
5. Now strain the lavender out of the oil. Place cheesecloth, coffee filter, paper oil filter, or a piece of muslin in a funnel over a clean jar and strain the oil into a clean and sanitized glass jar. Dispose of the spent lavender.
6. Label and date. You now have a luxurious beautiful lavender body oil with a beautiful lavender scent.
I am using almond oil and French lavender. I use the flowers, leaves and stem of the French Lavender. Other types of lavender, I only use the lavender buds. I don’t use the stems.
Uses for Lavender Oil
~Bath Oil: add 2-3 teaspoons of lavender herbal oil to the bath water to moisturize the skin, help relieve stress and bring you back into balance and harmony.
~Body Oil: since the skin is the largest organ of our body, the herbal properties of lavender oil are absorbed into the skin helping moisturize, balance and protect the skin.
~Product Making: use the lavender oil in your handmade lotion, cream, body butter, cold process soap, etc.
Beautiful recipe
Why didn’t you list coconut oil as one of the oils?
I am super excited about making my own lavender oil, can I also use the when making my own cleaning products?
I make my cleaning products and love them. The lavender oil is not an essential oil and can’t be used in in your cleaning products. It could possibly be used as a wood conditioner for tables depending on the plant oil that is used.
My first attempt to making my own lavender oil 😊
